Many of you know that Asa and I have a beautiful daughter named Amelia. She was born on November 3, 2014, weighed 6lbs and 5 ounces, was 20.5 inches long, had a beautiful head full of dark hair, but went straight to Heaven. This past year has been filled with unimaginable pain, challenges, and sadness. But it has also been filled with joy, hope, and strength. “You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have”-unknown.
We all experience loss and pain at some point in our lives. I've heard that life is about the “hard routine, and more importantly, whether you choose to fight through it.” I have seen this firsthand from many other parents who I have met along this journey of grief (parents who have lost children, but choose to fight and grow stronger in the face of tragedy).
I want today’s wod to be a symbol of getting stronger even when things seem impossible. One year ago today, I learned that everything that means the most to you can be taken away in an instant. It was a long road to find my passion again for most things that I enjoyed before this, but I have felt loved and supported by the CrossFit community from the day of her birth and still to this very day and I thank each and every one of you for that. You have carried us through this past year in many ways: letting us coach you, working out alongside us, coaching us, calling us, texting us, spending time with us outside the gym, coming to our house to visit, the list goes on and on. I can never thank our CrossFit family enough for simply being there for us.
We share this with you because today is Amelia’s 1st birthday. We wish she could be here to celebrate this day with us, but we have learned that there are things in life that are out of our control. We have chosen to make a special effort to be positive throughout the entire month of November. We are sad enough that she is not here, we choose to celebrate her life and make November a time to remember her and what she meant to us rather than be angry over things that we cannot change. The CrossFit community has been a great source of comfort and strength for us during this difficult year. We ask that you give 110% to this wod today for me, Asa, little Asa, and Amelia.
