University of Rhode Island researchers served lunch to 30 normal weight women. Women who were told to eat quickly ate 646 calories in 9 minutes. Women who were told to eat slowly ate 579 calories in 29 minutes. Could eating slower save you 67 calories per meal? Imagine if you are eating an extra 60-70 calories per meal just because you are eating fast. That can add up to some significant weight gain over the course of a year.
Eating slower helps give your body time to process when you are full. It can take the brain up to 20 minutes to send satiety signals to the rest of your body. Enjoy your meal, eat slower today!
