Amy's first weightlifting meet was in January 2014. At that time, little Asa was 2 years old. Most moms of a 2 year old don't make the time to work out regularly (much less train for a weightlifting meet), and most weightlifters don't wait until they are in their late 30s to begin competing. But Amy doesn't fit into the 'most ' category. She did really well in that meet, with a snatch of 52 kg and a C&J of 69 kg. Since then, Amy's training has been interrupted by two pregnancies and recoveries (taking out about 2 years, and enough to make 'most' moms just happy to fit into their jeans again) but she has continued to compete, lifting in 4 other USAW sanctioned meets. In her most recent competition, just a week ago, she set PRs in the snatch (57 kg) and C&J (70 kg). Those lifts place her among the top lifters in the country for her age group/weight class. Congratulate her when you see her, and wish her a Happy Birthday.
