Why do we coach CrossFit?
CrossFit is a belief that we own who we are and when we accept ownership we can change who we are.  This is what will take us to the next level of humanity:  health, equality, strength of mind and body, and if nothing else the ability to comprehend the possibility of all these things being possible.

Amy Hadsell – Coach

Amy is a CrossFit Level 2 trainer,  USAW certified Level 1 Sports Performance coach, and USA Gymnastics Safety Certified.  She holds a BS from the University of Texas at Arlington and is a registered nurse at Children’s Medical Center.  Her sport career began with competitive gymnastics as a child. After high school she turned it into a 15 year career of coaching competitive girl’s gymnastics teams.  As a gymnast and coach, she is no stranger to the aches, pains, sprains, strains and broken bones of an intense sport.  It wasn’t until discovering the functional movements of CrossFit and the power of proper nutrition that she realized waking up in pain was not a necessary part of the day.  Utilizing the functional movements of CrossFit and eating clean is how she stays healthy and helps transform others every day.

 Asa Hadsell, DC – Coach
Asa is a CrossFit Level 2 trainer and CrossFit Mobility certified.  He is also USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach certified.  He holds an MPA and BBA from the University of Texas at Austin but is more recently a proud graduate of Parker University with his Doctorate of Chiropractic.  With his discovery of CrossFit he not only got into the best shape of his life, but he realized that traditional bodybuilding style working out was not “getting in shape” at all.  With Paleo his college day wrist and shoulder aches and pains disappeared.  Now he hopes to spread CrossFit and proper nutrition through Chiropractic as a DC with Functional Movement Chiropractic . He is the only full body Active Release Therapy (ART) certified and a Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) chiropractor in Mesquite.

Shaun Phillips- Coach Shaun is a Level 1 CrossFit trainer. He graduated with a B.S. from Grambling State University were he was a member of the “World Famed Tiger marching Band”. He is also a member of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity INC. Shaun is owner and creative director of Hostag3 Media LLC and you can see his artwork all over CrossFit North Mesquite’s website and social media pages. Shaun found CrossFit by accident when he came to take pictures for the grand opening. Fifty pounds overweight and depressed, Shaun plunged into the CrossFit lifestyle strictly adhering to his philosophy that fitness is 90% nutrition and 10% workouts.  He has a strong desire to motivate others toward similar successes. He teaches Physical Education at Mesquite ISD. Shaun's will push you to do things that you didn’t think were possible. And he will do it with a smile on his face!
Shaun’s motto is P.E.A.C.E

Alma Santos- Coach CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Alma holds a B.S in Criminal Justice from the University of North Texas.  In high school she played volleyball, soccer, basketball, ran cross country and was a competitive swimmer.  After having her second child she tried getting in shape on her own  with boot camps, running, and soccer, but was not happy with the results. In 2013, she walked into CrossFit North Mesquite and now describes Crossfit North Mesquite as her second home.  She still runs and plays soccer in addition to her CrossFit training. “My children are my motivation in Crossfit.  I think about them when I think about safety in a workout.  If I were to be injured, I will not be as available for them and I may not be able to work.  I also think about the example I am setting for them.  Fitness isn’t everything in this world but being motivated, dedicated, disciplined and hard-working are qualities they should possess in everything they do in life.  Crossfit calls for these and much more.” Alma feels passionate that without properly fueling the body with the right foods, one cannot give their best as an athlete.  As a coach, Alma has high expectations for her athletes.  She is in the gym consistently giving her all every day.

Andrea Cabrera - Intern Andrea is currently working toward becoming a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer. She has worked for 11 years with children and adults with disabilities, which is what keeps her motivated. Throughout that time, she learned not to take her health for granted. There are people who physically are unable to do daily living activities and would give anything to be able to do what we are able to do. She is inspired by people who face life everyday with a smile in spite of their limitations. CrossFit is for everyone and Andrea is a firm believer that everyone is capable of achieving their goals progressively at their own level. Before joining CrossFit Andrea was also a runner for 15 years and played soccer recreationally. Andrea is all about being cautious and not getting injured (that's why you can find her wearing her gear during WODs).  OH!  And she LOVES TO TRAVEL!!! :)
